M&G Investments Renews Title Sponsorship until 2027
Six years on, M&G Investments continues to be a key supporter of the PE PLETT 4-day mountain bike stage race, which now attracts 400 cyclists annually to the Garden Route.
Originally known as Prudential Investment Managers, M&G Investments joined as the title sponsor six years ago, prompting the event’s name change from the Prudential PE PLETT to the M&G Investments PE PLETT. This partnership has helped transform PE PLETT into one of South Africa’s premier stage races, drawing top cycling talent, some of whom have gained international recognition.
In light of this success, M&G Investments has renewed its title sponsorship for another three years. This renewal promises continued growth and improvements for the event while maintaining its successful formula.
New Features in 2024
In 2024, race organisers, Red Cherry Events, introduced two new elements to enhance the event:
1. The Out and Back Day:
Responding to rider feedback, the event now allows cyclists to spend two nights in the same village, providing more comfort and reducing the physical strain of daily relocations.
2. The Tour: This new feature lets riders enjoy the same route over four days without the competitive pressure. Open start chutes and “Ride Guides” create a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere.
Value to Riders.
Participants in the M&G Investments PE PLETT can expect excellent value for their money. Race packs, a hallmark of the event, include jackets, long sleeve tops, caps, socks, bags, and riding tops, valued at nearly R3000 per rider.
The M&G Boost Bar offers a vital energy boost during the final kilometers, and The Tour participants can enjoy the Lolly Bar near the finish line. In keeping with the event’s no-wallet policy, riders receive gifts and surprise goodies daily, with a chance to win a R10,000 unit trust voucher on the final night.
Finishing the race is celebrated with cooler bags of pre-packed lunches, medals, and an overall celebration of accomplishments. These benefits, valued at around R5,000 per person, enhance the appeal of the R10,000 entry fee.
As preparations continue for the next edition of South Africa’s most diverse stage race, efforts are underway to ensure an even better experience in 2025. Jacques Steenkamp, the route director, is actively exploring new ways to enhance the journey along the Garden Route.
